Matthew McRae, Jr., D.M.D., M.A.G.D., P.C.

Doctor Matthew McRae

Dr. Matthew McRae, Jr. has been serving the Athens community and surrounding areas with quality and professional dental services by the grace of God for over 34-years. Dr. McRae received his undergraduate degree from Fort Valley State University, and his doctor of dental medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry.

Dr. McRae received his Fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry in 1983 and his Mastership with the Academy of General Dentistry in 1993. His areas of continued study include the prestigious Pankey Institute and Sterling Management. Recently, Dr. McRae attended the Medical University of South Carolina and successfully completed a course in “Bone and Soft Tissue Grafting for the Dental Implantologist.”

Dr. McRae loves to hone his expertise through continuing education courses. It is understood by many that a dentist who continues his education becomes an expert and that dentist is Dr. McRae.

Dr. McRae’s professional organizational membership includes: The Academy of General Dentistry, Georgia Dental Society, Christian Dental Society, Clarke County Dental Society, National Dental Association, and Implantology Dental Society. Recently, Dr. McRae was presented the distinguished Alumnus Award by the School of Dentistry Alumni at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. McRae co-founded MCG’s McRae-Orrington Dental Scholarship. Most recently voted to serve on the Foundation Board at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry, Augusta, Georgia.

Community involvement includes: Boys and Girls Club of America, past Board Member; Athens Human Relations, established Annual Scholarship; Athens Area Health Fairs, Exhibitor. Social organization includes: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and One Hundred Percenters, Inc.

Dr. McRae is an Elder at Church of The Nations where he is very active with Missions. Dr. McRae annually serves individuals in Nicaragua with their dental needs.

He is one of the founders and supporters of Los Playoas School (Nicaragua). He and his wife, Barbara, have four children and many beautiful grandchildren.

Flavia M. Popescu, D.M.D.

Doctor Flavia M. Popescu

Dr. Popescu, a native of Romania, earned her D.D.S. degree in May 2004 after completing six years of study at University in Cluj Romania. Soon after graduation, she began her career as a full-time dentist at the county hospital in Cluj. After meeting her future husband, a native of Atlanta, during a summer work abroad program she immigrated to the United States. In April 2007 she was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine where she earned a D.M.D. degree in May 2009. Shortly after graduating she and her husband moved back to the North Georgia. They now live in Hoschton, Georgia with their two young sons Nathan and Matthew. They attend First Romanian Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.

She loves her job as a dentist. She especially enjoys meeting new people and wants to make a difference in the lives of her patients. One of the ways she does that is by volunteering her time and skills to the MLK Free Dentistry Day from the Heart every year.

Marharyta Viarkhouskaya D.D.S.

Doctor Marharyta Viarkhouskaya

Dr. Marharyta Viarkhouskaya (Dr. V), a native of Belarus, earned her D.D.S. degree in 2003 after completing 5 years of Dental School at the Belorussian State Medical University. Soon after graduation she began her career as a full time dentist at the Community Clinic #22 of Belarus. After she went through advanced dental training in Belarus and was granted the First qualification category, she successfully launched her own dental practice in a small town, where she served low income families and organized free dental services and educational events for children with special needs and their families.

After moving to the United States (US) with her family, in March 2016, she attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry, where she earned a D.D.S. degree in June 2018. While she was studying dentistry in the US, she participated in numerous public outreach projects, which included serving the homeless, the low-income populations, and culturally diverse individuals. She also partook in the annual event organized by the Seattle/King County Clinic, where she provided dental services for those who are uninsured or underinsured. Shortly after graduation her family moved to Georgia.

Dr. V lives in Suwanee, Ga with her husband and two kids (Stsiapan and Evangelina). Dentistry is the profession she decided to dedicate her life to because she enjoys helping people and educating them about oral health and wellness. She is a dentist who serves people, is an advocate for fearless and painless dentistry, and promotes a healthy lifestyle by improving the health and wellbeing of her patients.
